Problem waste disposal
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzProblematic waste" includes waste from households that can be hazardous to health or the environment during use and disposal. The state legislator classifies it as hazardous waste. This waste is therefore disposed of separately from other household waste. Examples: paint strippers that are no longer needed or unusable, drain cleaners, paints, varnishes, adhesives, alkalis, acids, chemicals such as photographic chemicals, waste oil, pesticides and fertilizers, cleaning agents and detergents, as well as rechargeable batteries, batteries, energy-saving light bulbs and much more.
The public waste disposal authorities (districts and independent cities) offer stationary or mobile collection points ("Schadstoffmobil").
Hazardous waste contains harmful substances and is hazardous to the environment. Hazardous waste includes, for example, disinfectants, oil-contaminated operating materials, empty oil canisters, pesticides, acids, alkalis, mercury thermometers, cleaning agents, paint strippers, liquid or paste-like paints and detergents.
You can dispose of hazardous waste in normal household quantities (50 liters or 50 kg) on six dates per year.
- Points of sale of household batteries are legally obliged to take back used batteries free of charge. you can find additional information here Battery return systems
- Empty paint buckets and paint cans belong in the recycling bag.
- Liquid emulsion paint (50kg/50L) is accepted free of charge at the recycling center. It is no longer possible to hand them in at the hazardous waste collection point!
- Commercial enterprises with "small quantities of hazardous waste" (max. 500 kg per year) can hand in their waste at the hazardous waste collection point after prior notification by telephone (subject to a charge).
- Larger quantities/commercial quantities of hazardous waste (over 2000 kg/year) must be disposed of by Sonderabfall-Management-Gesellschaft Rheinland-Pfalz mbH (SAM), Wilhelm-Theodor-Römheld-Str. 34 in 55130 Mainz (Tel.: 0 61 31/9 82 98-0, Fax -22).
- Engine and gear oils are not taken away by the hazardous waste mobile. Sales outlets for engine and transmission oils are legally obliged to take back used oil free of charge up to the quantity of new oil purchased.
