Register marriage
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzYou must register your intended marriage in person at the registry office in whose jurisdiction you have your place of residence or habitual abode.
To speed up the procedure, you can send the registry office your preferred date for the marriage as well as the data required to check your eligibility for marriage by pre-registering.
The place where you register the marriage does not have to be the place where your marriage is to take place. In principle, you can get married at any registry office in Germany.
A civil marriage and a church wedding are independent of each other.
No witnesses need to be present at the marriage ceremony. However, if you wish, you can appoint 1 or 2 people as witnesses.
You can decide at the wedding or at a later date whether you wish to have a joint or separate surname.
Until June 30, 1998, you had to order a banns of marriage before getting married. This has now been replaced by the registration for the marriage. This means that you must register your marriage at the registry office in good time before the desired date (especially in the summer months it can happen that your "desired date" is already booked), together with the necessary documents. Both fiancées should appear in person at the registry office, as the registry office must accept the registration in writing. If a joint "registration appointment" with both partners is not possible, the partner who is unable to attend can also issue a written power of attorney (download PDF document).
A fee is charged when registering for the marriage.
Please note that the registry office is now located exclusively in the administrative office in Kyllburg
At the Bitburger Land registry office, you have the option of choosing between different wedding rooms/halls depending on the number of guests and the desired ambience. In addition to the wedding rooms in the town hall of the VG in Bitburg or in the administrative office in Kyllburg, it is also possible to hold your wedding ceremony in the Gothic knights' halls of Rittersdorf Castle, where there is also a [restaurant] directly in the castle, in[Hamm Castle] or in[Malberg Castle] (for an additional fee). Since August 2005, it has also been possible to hold the wedding ceremony in the community-owned part of Dudeldorf Castle. Here too, an additional fee is charged.
TERMINATION REQUESTS for the following year are only possible from 01.10. of the current year. This also means that any requests received before October 1st will be filed or deleted and will therefore not be considered.
