Animal by-products: disposal (rendering)
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzThe disposal of animal carcasses, parts of animal carcasses and products is an important precautionary measure to prevent the transmission of animal disease pathogens and other pathogens.
The so-called "animal by-products not intended for human consumption" include not only dead animals, but also slaughterhouse waste, food that is unfit for human consumption, kitchen and catering waste and manure.
Businesses that handle animal by-products in the broadest sense, e.g. biogas plants, require approval in accordance with Article 24 of Regulation (EC) No. 1069/2009.
The Zweckverband Tierische Nebenprodukte Südwest is responsible for the collection and processing of dead animals and animal by-products that accumulate in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. Please contact the following address: SecAnim Südwest GmbH, Am Orschbach, 54518 Rivenich. Telephone 06508/9143-0, fax 06508/827, e-mail: tierannahme-rivenich@secanim.de.
In principle, the special purpose association is also obliged to dispose of smaller pets such as dogs, cats, guinea pigs, etc., but the regulations provide for exceptions, other disposal options and simplifications for these animals under certain conditions (e.g. burial in your own garden). Burying dead pets is only permitted under certain conditions. You can obtain further information on handling dead pets from the relevant contact person at the veterinary office.
