Apply for a new driving license
Source: Serviceportal Rheinland-PfalzIf your driver's license has been revoked, you can reapply for it after the expiration of a blocking period, if one has been set. In the application procedure, you must prove that you have regained your ability and suitability to drive a motor vehicle.
The driving license is issued for an unlimited period.
For classes C, C1, CE, C1E, D, D1, DE and D1E, the driving license is issued for a limited period.
If your driving license has been revoked or you have declared that you wish to surrender your driving license, you must submit an application for a new license. A new driver's license may only be issued if the examination of your application has not revealed any concerns about your suitability. The administrative authority is legally obliged to carry out such an examination.
You can apply to the competent authority for a new driver's license following a previous revocation by a court at the earliest six months before the expiry of a ban. The application must be made in person, as a signature is required.
Documents required:
- a biometric photograph
- identity card
- for driving license categories AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE, L or T, an eye test and first aid certificate
- for driving license categories C1, C1E, C, CE, D, DE or D1E, a certificate or report on physical and mental aptitude in accordance with Section 11 (9) of the German Driving License Ordinance (FeV), a certificate or report on eyesight in accordance with Section 12 (6) FeV and a first aid certificate
Further declarations/documents may be requested as part of the application processing. Further measures still to be carried out, in particular an assessment or a possible test to be taken, will also be communicated.
Examples in which the authority must or can request a medical/psychological report. If
- repeated offenses were committed while driving under the influence of alcohol
- a vehicle was driven with a blood alcohol concentration of 1.6 per mille or more or a breath alcohol concentration of 0.8 mg/l or more
- it must be clarified whether alcohol abuse or alcohol dependence no longer exists
- the driver's license has been revoked due to the use of narcotics
- the driver's license has been revoked due to driving under the influence of narcotics
- the driver's license has been revoked due to the misuse of psychoactive drugs or other psychoactive substances
- in the event of a serious violation or repeated violations of traffic regulations
- in the event of a serious criminal offense in connection with road traffic or in the event of criminal offenses in connection with road traffic
- in the case of a serious criminal offense in connection with fitness to drive, in particular if there are indications of a high potential for aggression or if the serious criminal offense was committed while using a vehicle
- in the case of offenses related to fitness to drive, in particular if there are indications of a high potential for aggression
- the driver's license has been repeatedly revoked
You should contact a self-help group or counseling center at an early stage to deal with any alcohol or narcotics problems.
