Deregistering the secondary residence
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzIf you move out of a secondary residence and do not move into another residence in Germany, you must deregister for this residence.
The registration authority of the municipality or city of the then sole residence or the main residence, if you have other residences.
In the case of persons under the age of 16, care must be taken to ensure that they are deregistered by the person from whose home they are moving out.

When deregistering a secondary residence in Germany without moving into a new residence in Germany, the registration authority may, in cases of doubt, request confirmation from the landlord that you have moved out.
You must deregister from the secondary residence within 2 weeks of moving out. You can deregister in the week before you move out of the apartment.
