Senior Citizens' Representation

Source: BUS Rheinland-Pfalz

Many municipalities, cities and districts in Rhineland-Palatinate have established municipal senior citizens' representations/senior citizens' councils by statute or resolution. The senior citizens' representation is voluntary, non-denominational and non-partisan and does not pursue any economic goals.

It is responsible for the following tasks:

  • It advises members of her own generation on regional support options and services in personal life.
  • It develops or accompanies offers that enable a self-determined life in old age. It supports with the aim of promoting activities and independence and maintaining them for as long as possible.
  • Senior citizens' representatives take up the issues of the older generations and inform the public about possibilities and developments of senior citizens' policy, also with the aim of encouraging older citizens to actively participate.
  • The senior citizens' representation should be a member of all municipal committees dedicated to the concerns of older people. It seeks cooperation with organisations that are important for shaping the living environment of the elderly population.
  • It works in partnership with the council and administration and has the right to apply and speak on the self-government affairs of the municipality in the interests of the older generation.

The Landesseniorenvertretung Rheinland-Pfalz e.V. is the association of municipal senior citizens' representatives / senior citizens' councils in Rhineland-Palatinate.
