What is the Deutschlandticket and how much does it cost?
The Deutschlandticket is:
- a digital monthly subscription ticket
- is personalized, non-transferable and only valid in conjunction with a photo ID
- costs 49 euros per month
- can be canceled monthly.
The Deutschlandticket was launched on May 1, 2023.
Where is the Deutschlandticket valid and where is it not?
The D-Ticket is generally valid nationwide on all public transport operated by the transport associations and all local transport companies. It can be used on all local public transport vehicles throughout Germany, i.e. buses, trams, city trains and subway trains as well as suburban trains, regional trains and regional express trains in 2nd class and in most cases also ferries. In the VRM, all ferries that are integrated into the VRM can be used.
The ticket is not valid on long-distance services (IC, EC, ICE). Private providers, such as FlixTrain or FlixBus, are also excluded. The D-Ticket is also not valid on means of transport that are used primarily for tourist or historical purposes.
How is the Deutschland-Ticket issued?
The Deutschland-Ticket is issued by Verkehrsverbund-Rhein-Mosel exclusively as a mobile ticket via the "D-Ticket-VRM" app. The ticket is a monthly subscription ticket that is automatically extended by one month unless it is canceled. The Deutschland-Ticket can be canceled at the end of the month by the 10th of the month at the latest.
When do I buy my Deutschland-Ticket and when is it valid?
You can generally purchase the Deutschland-Ticket on the first day of any month from May 1, 2023. A Deutschlandticket purchased in the current month is valid until the end of that month, not for the duration of a month, for example: If a ticket is purchased on May 20, it is valid until May 31.
How can I purchase the Deutschlandticket?
You can now purchase the Deutschlandticket from VRM securely and conveniently via the "D-Ticket VRM" app exclusively as a mobile ticket.
First download the "D-Ticket VRM" app from the store onto your cell phone. You will be asked to register once you have downloaded the app. Then enter your e-mail address and set a password of your choice. After clicking on Register, you will receive an e-mail asking you to verify your e-mail address.
After clicking on the corresponding link, you should see that your customer account has been successfully activated. You can now enter your personal details under "Customer account" and set the start date for your Germany ticket. Then add the desired payment method under "Payment method". Your ticket will then be displayed in your app from the start of validity.
Can I cancel or exchange my ticket?
No, according to the fare conditions for the Deutschland Ticket, it is not possible to cancel or exchange your ticket.
Do I have to extend my Deutschlandticket?
No. If the contract is not terminated, the Deutschlandticket is automatically extended by a further month.
Do I have to cancel the Deutschlandticket or does it end automatically?
The ticket does not end automatically. If the contract is not terminated, the Deutschlandticket is automatically extended for a further month.
What applies to children?
Children under the age of six travel for free on public transport and do not need a ticket.
Children over the age of 6 need their own Deutschlandticket.
Is the Deutschlandticket transferable?
No, the Deutschlandticket is personalized and cannot be transferred to another person. It is only valid in conjunction with an official photo ID.
Can I take other people with me?
It is not possible to take people over the age of 6 with you free of charge.

Can I take my bicycle with me free of charge?
The free carriage of bicycles is subject to the regulations of the respective transport associations. In the Rhine-Moselle Transport Association (VRM), bicycles can be taken on board in accordance with section 6.9 of the fare regulations.
The following applies: In principle, bicycles can be carried free of charge all day on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays and from 9 a.m. on Mondays to Fridays. On rail services, a discounted one-way ticket of price level 4 must be purchased to take bicycles on weekdays before 9 a.m.; this is not permitted on bus services.
As a general rule, bicycles are carried according to capacity, not guaranteed!
Can I take my dog with me free of charge?
The free carriage of dogs on buses also applies to the Deutschlandticket in accordance with the VRM fare regulations.
For journeys outside the VRM, the regulations of the respective associations apply.
Is there also a discounted D-Ticket for students?
It is possible for students to pay the difference between their existing Semester-Ticket and D-Ticket and receive a D-Ticket in return. Such an upgrade is optional. Each student can decide for themselves whether they want to use it.
In the VRM, students at the University of Koblenz, Koblenz University of Applied Sciences at the Remagen site and WHU Vallendar can use the "D-Ticket-VRM" app to upgrade their semester ticket to a Deutschland-Ticket for students as a cell phone ticket.
To do this, simply enter the name of the university/college and the enrolment number when purchasing the ticket in the app and have your student ID ready for inspection on public transport.
What applies to holders of Jobtickets?
The Deutschlandticket is also available as a job ticket:
If your employer contributes at least 25% (≙ 12.25 euros) per month towards the cost of each Deutschlandticket, they can conclude a contract with the VRM and obtain the Deutschlandticket as a JobTicket at a price of 46.55 euros per month per user. For you as a ticket user, the ticket will then only cost a maximum of 34.30 euros per month (if your employer pays a higher subsidy, then correspondingly less).

How does the D-ticket check work?
Please make sure that your cell phone is ready for use.
Show the ticket stored on the display of your cell phone to the driving or inspection personnel. For details, please tap on the barcode of your ticket at the bottom right, then your name, date of birth and the validity of the ticket will be legible.
Please also identify yourself with your official photo ID.
How do I get my ticket back after changing my telephone number/mobile phone?
If you only change your telephone number or SIM card, you do not need to do anything else. You can enter the new mobile phone number in your customer account.
If you change your cell phone (new cell phone) while your Deutschland-Ticket is valid, simply download the "D-Ticket VRM" app again, start it and enter your email address and password. The app will authenticate you and display your valid Deutschland-Ticket on your new cell phone.
Reinstall the "D-Ticket-VRM" app on your cell phone and then log in with your email address and password. The D-Ticket will be displayed after authentication.
What should I do if my cell phone is lost or stolen?
If your cell phone has been stolen, please send an e-mail to d-ticket@vrminfo.de or call 0800 500 27 67 (free of charge Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.).
