Motor vehicle: obligation to wear seat belts and safety helmets - exemption
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzTo protect road users, the legislator has stipulated that seat belts must be worn while driving and that suitable safety helmets must be worn when driving motorcycles.
In individual cases, however, it is possible to be exempted from this obligation on application. The resulting considerable safety risk is borne by the applicant.
You can be exempted from the obligation to wear a seat belt by way of exception,
- if it is not possible to wear a seat belt for health reasons.
- if your height is less than 150 cm.
You may be exempted from the obligation to wear a safety helmet by way of exception,
- if it is not possible to wear a safety helmet for health reasons.
Information about the exemption from the helmet requirement
Medical certificate
The medical certificate must state that you are unable to wear a helmet for medical reasons and must therefore be exempted from the obligation to wear a helmet. You should also provide information on the required duration of the exemption (temporary or permanent exemption, depending on the diagnosis).
Own information
In addition, information is required on the reasons for riding a motorcycle, the mileage covered per year or per month (approximate information) and which roads are used (city traffic, country roads, highway)
In addition, information should be provided as to whether other vehicles such as cars are available.
