Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzIf you move into a new home, you must register with the registration office responsible for you at your new place of residence within two weeks of moving in.
If you are under 16 years of age, you must be registered by the person whose home you are moving into.
If you are over 18 years of age and a carer or guardian has been appointed for you who can determine your residence, then your new home must be registered by your carer or guardian.
You only have to register newborn babies born in Germany if they move into a different home to that of their parents or mother.
To register your new home, you must come in person to the registration office responsible for you or authorize another person to do so.
Have you just moved and would like to register your residence as your main or only home? Do it online, free of charge and without going to the authorities. You will receive a digital registration confirmation and update your ID card, passport or eID card. The easiest way to do this is with your smartphone. Electronic residence registration is a service provided by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg for the whole of Germany.
