Surrender your driver's license voluntarily
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzIf, for health reasons or due to signs of age, you are no longer able to drive your motor vehicle safely in traffic, you have the option of voluntarily surrendering your driving licence. This option is also available to you if you have been caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. For this purpose, a so-called waiver is necessary.
To hand in your driving licence, please contact the relevant driving licence authority in your place of residence.
- Voluntary surrender of the driving licence by the licence holder. This is the difference to the withdrawal of a driver's license, which is ordered by the authority.
- Written waiver
- Driving licence
There are no fees.
Hint: A driver's license revocation by the authority would lead to a fee payment.
A voluntary waiver is possible at any time.
