Granting a residence permit for children born in Germany
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzA child born in Germany can be granted a residence permit if one of the parents has a residence permit, a settlement permit or an EU permanent residence permit.
If, at the time of birth, both parents or the parent with sole custody hold a residence permit, a settlement permit or an EU permanent residence permit, the child born in Germany will be granted a residence permit ex officio.
The residence of a child born in Germany whose mother or father is in possession of a visa at the time of birth or is permitted to stay without a visa is deemed to be permitted until the visa or lawful visa-free stay expires.
The responsibility lies with the foreigners authority of the district administration and the city administration of the independent city.
- Born in Germany
- The child must have been born in Germany and be registered together with the custodial parent(s).
- Passport of the child (the child must either have its own valid passport or be registered in the passport of one of the parents)
- 1 current biometric passport photo (not older than 6 months), 35mm x 45mm, frontal shot, light background

- At least 25 euros if the residence permit is issued for one year.
- At least 30 euros if the residence permit is issued for longer than one year.
