Apply for a new driving license
Source: Serviceportal Rheinland-PfalzIf your driver's license has been revoked, you can reapply for it after the expiration of a blocking period, if one has been set. In the application procedure, you must prove that you have regained your ability and suitability to drive a motor vehicle.
The driving license is issued for an unlimited period.
For classes C, C1, CE, C1E, D, D1, DE and D1E, the driving license is issued for a limited period.
Description
Have you had your driving license revoked by a court ruling or by the driving license authority, or have you voluntarily given up your driving license? Would you like to drive a motor vehicle on the road again? Then you must apply for a new driver's license.
Note
However, if you have surrendered your driving license as part of a temporary driving ban (e.g. speeding), you do not need to apply for a new license. You will receive your driver's license back "automatically" after the time limit has expired.
Application
- Personal appearance required (for identification and signature)
- Application deadlines
- Withdrawal of driving license: Application for a new license can be submitted at the earliest 6 months before the expiry of the imposed suspension period.
- Waiver of driving license: Application for a new license can be submitted at any time.
Requirements:
- Main residence in Mainz
- Expiry of the fixed blocking period in the event of driving license revocation
- You will not "automatically" receive a new driver's license. An application is required.
- After submitting the application, the driving license authority will check whether you are physically, mentally and character-wise suitable to drive motor vehicles again. As a rule, the same regulations apply to the reissue as for the initial issue of a driving license.
- A new driving test is only required if it must be assumed that you no longer have the knowledge and skills required to drive a motor vehicle.
- A medical-psychological assessment is generally required in the event of a repeated driving disqualification. A medical-psychological expert opinion is already required for a first withdrawal due to narcotics or due to a drunk driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 1.6 o/oo or a breath alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.8 mg/l or more. You should contact a preparation center at an early stage to deal with any alcohol and/or drug problems you may have. Many medical-psychological assessment centers also offer free information evenings. The aim is to familiarize you with the procedure and the process of a medical-psychological assessment (MPU).
