For the expansion and development of safe cycling in the region, some municipal, city or district administrations have appointed a so-called cycling officer. Depending on the local conditions, he is responsible for the following tasks, among others:

  • Bicycle-friendly transport infrastructure
  • Contact person for questions and problems in cycling
  • Road safety for cyclists
  • Coordination of cycling activities of the various associations and institutions
  • Planning and implementation of events with bicycles and bicycle traffic
  • Expansion of bicycle transport facilities in public transport, bicycle rental systems or bicycle boxes

In some places, the activity as a cycling officer also takes place on a voluntary basis.
