Applying for exemptions from compulsory schooling
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzSchool attendance is compulsory for all children, young people and adolescents living in Rhineland-Palatinate. As a rule, school must be attended for a period of 12 years, although there are statutory exceptions to this rule. In particularly limited exceptional cases, an exemption from the general obligation to attend school can also be confirmed or granted.
If an exemption from compulsory school attendance beyond the periods stipulated in the Maternity Protection Act is desired, a corresponding application must be submitted, possibly accompanied by further documents. A decision will then be made on the extension of the exemption.
If an exemption from compulsory schooling is desired because the pupil is sufficiently educated elsewhere (e.g. abroad), an application must be submitted together with the necessary documents. After receipt of the complete documents, it will be checked whether the requirements are met.
No official services are required for the exemptions stipulated by the Education Act.
If you wish to be exempted from compulsory schooling beyond the deadlines specified in the Maternity Protection Act, please contact the head teacher of your school or your daughter's school.
If you wish to be exempted from compulsory schooling due to sufficient other education, please contact the school department of the Supervisory and Service Directorate (ADD):
