Register home slaughter
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzIf you wish to slaughter pets or ungulates yourself at home, you must register this with the competent authority. Home slaughtering refers to the slaughtering of animals outside a commercial slaughterhouse.
The production of meat for other persons is a commercial activity and may only be carried out in compliance with the standards of European and national food hygiene legislation. No statutory hygiene regulations apply to home slaughtering. You decide on the cleanliness of your work yourself.
The following are subject to official ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection for home slaughtering
- Cattle,
- pigs,
- sheep,
- wild game
- goats and other cloven-hoofed animals,
- Horses and other solipeds, provided their meat is intended for human consumption.
