Customs control - import bans

Despite facilitations in the clearance of goods in your personal luggage, you cannot carry all goods and products in cross-border travel without restrictions. The customs authorities monitor the import restrictions and bans and carry out appropriate checks.

There are bans and restrictions on private imports in the following areas in particular:

• Species protection;
• medicinal products;
• narcotics;
• fireworks;
• dangerous dogs (fighting dogs);
• foodstuffs;
• counterfeit goods (product piracy);
• sanitary plant protection (e.g. potatoes);
• Writings with unconstitutional content;
• Protection of public order (e.g. pornography);
• animal disease law (pets, animal products);
• Weapons and ammunition (sporting weapons, hunting weapons, prohibited items).
