Apply for registration for the movement of plants and goods in the EU (plant passport)
Source: Serviceportal Rheinland-PfalzA plant passport is required for certain plants, plant products, forest plants and other items such as wood. This is necessary if the goods are moved, i.e. traded, imported or exported, by companies within the European Union (EU). The plant passport is an official label. It certifies that the goods are free from quarantine pests and meet phytosanitary requirements.
If you want to move goods requiring a plant passport within the EU, you must register your company.
You do not have to register if you
- supply small quantities of plants or seeds directly to end users
- This does not apply to mail order and online trade
- transporting plants for other entrepreneurs
- Transporting objects in wooden packaging
As an entrepreneur carrying out a commercial activity, you can only be entered once in the register of a competent authority. If you have several businesses or branches, reference is made to the branches in the official register.
Information on protected areas:
- In the EU, there are phytosanitary protected zones in which certain pests do not yet occur. Certain goods may only be delivered to these protected areas if they meet special requirements. Ireland, for example, is free of certain pests due to its island location. Therefore, additional requirements apply to certain goods here.
- In Germany, there are currently no phytosanitary protected zones.
