Apply for reimbursement of costs for damaged or destroyed aids

You can apply for reimbursement of costs for damaged or destroyed aids online or by post.

Online service:

• Call up the online service.
• You will be guided through the process on the accident insurance service portal.
• You can log in.
  • If you would like to receive a reply from your Berufsgenossenschaft or accident insurance fund in the mailbox of your BundID account or My Company Account, you must have an account and authenticate yourself.
  • If you would like to receive the reply by post, you can continue without registering.
• Select your responsible employers' liability insurance association or accident insurance fund or find them using the industry search.
• Upload the required documents.
• Complete the online form and send it off.
• Your notification will be automatically forwarded to your employers' liability insurance association or accident insurance fund.
• You will receive feedback via the requested channel.

Online service of your employers' liability insurance association or accident insurance fund:

• If you have access to the portal of your employers' liability insurance association or accident insurance fund, you can also submit the notification electronically there if necessary.

Message by post:

• Send an informal letter to your employers' liability insurance association or accident insurance fund.
• Make sure you provide the required information and enclose the necessary documents.

The costs can only be covered if the following conditions are met:

• There has been an accident, i.e. a damaging, temporary event affecting the person from the outside.
• Your aid was damaged or lost in the accident.
• You were wearing the aid on your body at the time of the accident. For example, there is no compensation if your glasses are kept in your briefcase and the bag is lost on the train.
• Your medical aid must have been damaged during an activity covered by statutory accident insurance (e.g. at work, in daycare, at school, while studying). However, you do not necessarily have to have been using it (for example, if reading glasses carried in your breast pocket are damaged in an accident).
• There must be proof of the accident (for example, an accident report from the employer or school).

• Invoice for the damaged or lost aid
• Cost estimate for the new aid
• Invoice for the new assistive device or the repair invoice
• Notification of the accident at work, commuting accident or school accident by the employer or school authority
• Please ask your employer's liability insurance association or accident insurance fund whether you need to submit any further documents and, if so, which ones.
